Welcome to Paste Redactor ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our Chrome extension and related services.
2. Data Processing Philosophy: Your Data Stays on Your Device
Paste Redactor is built from the ground up with strict privacy-first principles:
- Zero Content Transmission: All PII detection and redaction happens locally in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit the text you paste or redact.
- Minimal Server Pings: The content you redact never goes to our servers. The only background communication our extension makes is occasionally verifying Premium license status when the browser loads or the extension is clicked.
- Offline First: If your internet connection drops, Paste Redactor continues to protect your data by securely trusting your last known local settings.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: If you subscribe to Premium or Enterprise, we collect your name, email address, and payment information (processed securely through our payment providers).
- Support Communications: When you contact us for support, we collect the information you choose to provide us.
3.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Usage Analytics: We only have access to basic, anonymous metrics provided by the Chrome Web Store (such as total extension activations and basic device compatibility data).
- What We DON'T Collect: We do not track your redaction counts on our servers. Any limits for the Free tier are calculated and stored strictly locally on your own device.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect exclusively for:
- Providing and maintaining the Paste Redactor service.
- Processing Premium subscriptions and validating licenses.
- Responding to your inquiries and providing support.
- Sending important service updates and security notifications.
- Compliance with legal obligations.
Note: Because your text never leaves your device, we do NOT use your pasted content to train or improve our AI models.
5. Open Source Models
Our PII detection is powered by transparent, open-source models:
These models run entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and TensorFlow.js, ensuring the AI comes to your data, rather than your data going to the AI.
6. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Because our extension processes your text locally, there is no sensitive content to share.
For the basic operation of our website and Premium accounts, limited sharing of account data occurs only with trusted third-party service providers in the following categories:
- Payment Processors: To securely handle Premium and Enterprise subscription billing. We never see, process, or store your full credit card details; this is handled entirely by our payment providers.
- Hosting and Cloud Infrastructure Providers: To host our website, deliver extension updates, and securely maintain the basic database required for user accounts and license verification.
- Law Enforcement and Legal Requests: We may disclose your limited account data if required to do so by law, subpoena, or strictly necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Paste Redactor, our users, or the public. (Note: Because we do not store your pasted text, we cannot hand over your redacted content to anyone, including law enforcement).
All our service providers are contractually obligated to protect your data, comply with strict privacy standards, and are prohibited from using your information for any purpose other than providing services to us.
7. Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained while your license is active and for up to 7 years after for legal, tax, and compliance purposes.
- Redacted Content: Never collected, never transmitted, and never stored.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data. (Right to Erasure). (Note: Upon receiving an erasure request, we will permanently delete all account and support information within 30 days, except for the basic transaction records we are legally required to retain under international tax and accounting laws).
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Opt-out of marketing communications.
- Withdraw consent at any time.

9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
- HTTPS encryption for all communications (such as license verification).
- Secure payment processing is PCI DSS compliant.

10. Age Requirements
Paste Redactor is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we become aware that a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete such information immediately.
11. Zero Tracking & Local Storage
We believe in keeping your digital footprint as small as possible:
- No Tracking Cookies: We do not use analytics or tracking cookies on our extension. If you log into our website to manage a Premium subscription, we use only essential session cookies required for authentication.
- Your Preferences Stay Yours: Settings such as the specific PII types you choose to redact, custom patterns, and your total redaction counts are stored entirely in your browser's local Extension Storage. We do not have access to this data, nor do we want it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes via email (for registered Premium users) or via an in-app extension notification.
